Areas of California left devastated by last month's historic wildfires were ravaged by deadly mudslides this week. At least 17 people were killed when a wall of mud sent boulders and debris sweeping through neighborhoods. The upscale hillside community of Montecito in Southern California, where well-known figures including Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres live, was hit particularly hard.

Other major headlines of the week included President Trump reportedly calling Haiti and African nations "s---hole countries," celebrities wearing black to the Golden Globes in support of the Time's Up initiative and Steve Bannon being removed from his position at Breitbart News.

Click through the slideshow above to see photos from all of these events and more, and be sure to check back next weekend for our selection of the best photography from the week.
