Here's what Whitney Port 'can't be concerned with' anymore since becoming a mother

Whitney Port recently had a revelation.

When the former cast member on "The Hills" became a mother to son Sonny, 6 months, she "realized what's really important," she told AOL Entertainment during a sit-down interview. Not on that list of important things? Her hair, which she recently chopped off (and has mixed feelings about).

"On a regular basis, I'm like, 'Oh, no!' Short hair is cool and fashion-y, but I felt sexier with longer hair," Port told us. "[But] having a bad hair day or not knowing what to wear [aren't] real issues. They're something fun to care about and make ourselves feel good, but, for me, I want to focus more of my time on things that are more substantial."

"I can’t be concerned with myself as much anymore," she added. "I can’t be that vain!"

And Port certainly practices what she preaches. The new mother, who welcomed her son with husband Tim Rosenman back in July of 2017, has been brutally honest about the real-life struggles of motherhood that so many of her peers are hesitant to acknowledge. She stars in a weekly YouTube series called "I Love My Baby, But...," which documents the good, the bad and the ugly of being a parent.

"It was really my husband who pushed me to do it," she said of the series. "I’m all about trying to create beautiful content, but when he wants to film I’m not in hair and makeup, I’m in a disgusting sweatsuit and the house looks like a mess, but he’s like, ‘Whitney, no one cares. What people really want to see is what’s actually happening.’ I still want to be considered as someone who has it together, but then I realize that that’s just faking it."

Though some days are easier than others, Port noted that "it’s all about being okay with where you’re at at that specific point in time."

One example of that is the products she allows herself to use around her child, which she said "is all about having a balance."

"It’s about whatever works for you," she told us of her approach. "I’m all about a balance of organic and non-organic, because it’s too time consuming [to just use organic]. It’s expensive, and it’s unrealistic. WaterWipes was something that I was going to use before I ever partnered with them, because Sonny has really sensitive skin, so this is the one product that doesn’t disrupt his skin. But, I’m sorry, if I need my bathrooms to be cleaned, and I’m going to use bleach."

At the end of the day, what has truly made Port's life as a mother manageable is having Rosenman, whom she met on the set of MTV's "The City," there as her perfect partner.

"Having a present, supportive husband is the No. 1 thing [that has made parenting easier]," she explained with a smile. "He’s so involved. Honestly, when the two of us are home together, he does more than I do. I always say that I’m the coach and he’s the quarterback. I make sure that there’s food and diapers and do the bedtime schedule, and he’s the one who actually executes everything."

As for her Sonny himself, Port is thankful that he's such an easygoing guy.

"He’s super chill," she gushed. "I was a really good baby and hopefully he’s taking after me."
