Giuliana Rancic hilariously reveals that her son thinks 'mommy is a singer'

Giuliana and Bill Rancic's 5-year-old son, Duke, isn't totally sure what his famous parents do for a living.

While speaking with AOL Entertainment at Marshalls in downtown Manhattan, the couple -- who live with their son in Chicago -- revealed that they recently learned that Duke thinks his mom has a totally different career than the one she actually has.

"He truly knows nothing about Hollywood [from living in Chicago]. He has no idea," Giuliana told us. "In fact, the other day, someone told me that when he was asked what Mommy and Daddy do, he said, ‘My daddy does a lot of things and he’s a builder, and my mommy is a singer!’ I was so excited -- singing is our hobby and we have a karaoke machine at home -- because I love singing. It's my secret passion, and it’s so cute that he noticed that."

"He has no idea that my job is on TV hosting," she added with a laugh.

All of that despite the fact that Duke and Bill watched Giuliana's coverage of the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday night "between football games," Bill said.

"He was like, 'Come home, Mommy!'" he remembered. "He also asked me, 'Can Mommy bring that microphone home?'"

Giuliana, who has been covering red carpets for E! for almost 15 years, laughed at the comment, but got more serious when asked about her approach to the Golden Globes red carpet ahead of this year's #TimesUp-dominated show. Before the Globes, it was announced that many of the stars planned on wearing black on the red carpet in solidarity with victims of sexual abuse, which turned coverage of the show on its head.

"People in Hollywood have a big voice with that microphone in front of them," Giuliana explained. "We embraced that. I, for one, embraced that. Right off the top, I said, 'Tonight is not about who are you wearing, but why are you wearing black? What does this movement mean to you?' I was proud of that and that it was such a big part of our coverage."

"You saw it in the conversations that Ryan [Seacrest] and I were having with the different celebrities who have been doing these carpets since I started 15 years ago," she continued. "The interviews had such a different tone, and it was very uplifting. And it felt -- I’ll tell you the word -- very meaningful. It was the most meaningful red carpet I’ve ever done. I thought the interviews were meaningful and the feedback on social media was just that it was very different, in a good way. It was interesting watching the different stars talking about their experiences and why it’s important, as opposed to just the work they’re doing or what they’re wearing."

Using her platform to relay more important messages is something that Rancic has been doing for years. On "Giuliana and Bill," the couple's E! reality show that ran for an incredible seven seasons, the former "E! News" host was fully open about her struggle with infertility, as well as her battle with breast cancer.

"There is nothing better about my job than to be able to use the platform for good," Giuliana said. "And I think that’s what we were able to do on Sunday night."

Bill agreed, adding that "she makes it look so easy."

"I've seen the preparation and the homework that she does, and I'm blown away every time."

Looking into 2018, the couple is intent on focusing more of their time and effort on their family of three. In partnership with Marshalls, Bill and Giuliana are encouraging families to forgo individual New Year's resolutions and, instead, focus on family resolutions.

"Family resolutions are really nice because you can hold each other accountable and all be in on it together," Giuliana said. "For us, we’ve decided that a good family resolution for us would be to carve out one night a week to make a dinner from scratch and a game night with our son. It's just about enjoying each other's company. We're all so busy, and suddenly weeks go by and you realize you haven't done something fun as a family in a while."

"Yeah, and no cell phones!" Bill chimed in.
