Wendy Williams reveals what she'll do once the 'sun sets' on her talk show

Wendy Williams is setting herself up to have quite the lasting legacy -- and we're not just talking about her iconic talk show career.

The outspoken television personality wants to ensure that she's making an impact on more than just pop culture, and she's making that a family-wide effort. Along with her husband, Kevin Hunter, Williams launched The Hunter Foundation back in 2014 in an effort to support community-based organizations in the greater New York and New Jersey area.

The charitable foundation held its third annual "Dinner With the Hunters" event at Bowlmor Times Square this week, where Williams served dinner to low-income and homeless people in the area alongside other celebs like "Real Housewives of New York" star Ramona Singer. It's the start of Williams' effort to feed 2,000 people this holiday season -- twice as many as last year's effort.

"Every year we want to get bigger and better," she told AOL Entertainment at the event about growing The Hunter Foundation. "You just have to get the word out. That's one of the things with having a foundation -- especially an upstart foundation like ours -- we're still the little fish, so it's just about getting the world out."

In an effort to grow its impact, The Hunter Foundation is currently participating in the Newman's Own Foundation's $500,000 Holiday Challenge on CrowdRise.com, which could win the charity up to $150,000.

BACK TO SLIDE

Williams told us that she's learned a lot in the three years since launching her organization, mainly that it takes time -- and money -- to grow.

"You can't aim too high in the beginning," she explained. "And you have to have your own seed money. It's more about the impact rather than the number of people [you serve], though. A lot of the people who have been with us through the years keep coming back, which is nice."

Seeing that impact face-to-face over the years is what Williams considers to be the most "special" aspect of her work with The Hunter Foundation, which is important for the host of "The Wendy Williams Show" as she looks to what life might look like when her talk show comes to an end.

"At the particular time that we started the foundation, I had felt as though I had a good enough name in the industry and enough of a footing with the talk show that if I said I had a foundation, it could get the ball rolling," she told AOL Entertainment. "The show is about to go into its tenth season in September, but what I want to do when the sun sets on my talk career is I want to have a solid foundation."

To be sure, "The Wendy Williams Show" isn't going anywhere anytime soon -- it'll be on the air until at least 2020 -- but that hasn't stopped Wendy Williams from putting her full heart into The Hunter Foundation, and that's something worth celebrating this holiday season.
