Chrissy Teigen reveals why she's 'getting nervous' about her second cookbook

Updated

It should surprise no one that Chrissy Teigen is that one friend that everyone texts for last-minute recommendations on where to eat, where to travel and, well, where to eat while you travel.

The unfiltered star, who this year alone has traveled to places like Bali, Morocco and Italy, told AOL Entertainment that she is constantly being asked for travel and eating tips, which she attributes to an alteration in her general lifestyle.

"Especially in the last few years, I have definitely gotten a lot more text messages than normal about where to go or what to see," she told us on a recent phone call. "A lot of my friends are traveling more, we're growing up a bit and having families, so it's nice to be able to help them out. I feel in my heart that I've pretty much seen and done everything, and I really know what cities I love."

And, though husband John Legend travels with her on most of her big trips, she admits that he's been getting different kinds of texts from their friends.

"People will be texting John about what's going on in the White House right now, and I'm the one that they're like, 'What's the coolest place to eat in Florence?'" she said with a laugh.

Wanting to spread her knowledge about travel to even more people, Teigen partnered with Chase Sapphire to curate travel and dining itineraries available exclusively to Sapphire cardmembers.

That being said, the qualities that Teigen looks for in an ideal travel destination have changed recently, especially since welcoming daughter Luna last April. Strictly romantic getaways for her and John and largely a thing of the past, as they now have another human being to worry about on vacation.

"A lot of our romantic getaways have combined with our baby getaways," she explained. "We no longer have travels where we just focus on romance. We want to be able to do everything; we want to be able to go to places that have the most amazing restaurants, fantastic sightseeing, beautiful boats -- we love water! -- but we also want there to be sidewalks and family friendly areas. When we have a good weekend to spend away, we kind of combine those two trips."

Teigen's extensive traveling is also informing her work, especially the highly-anticipated follow-up to Cravings, her best-selling cookbook. The Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmember revealed that her recent trip to Bali, where she took part in a wellness retreat at Como Shambala, will have a profound impact on the recipes in her second cookbook through the way it opened her eyes to new flavors, spices and tastes.

"My mind was just really open, so I came home and I had totally different cravings," she said. "My last book really had a theme: It was hardy, rich, American fare, and my mom had a chapter, but it was mostly flavor-popping, heavy-duty, good-for-the-family recipes. But, now, I feel much more well-traveled and wanting to use more herbs and spices and freshness and simplicity. I'm getting nervous, because I've done half the book already and now all of a sudden I have totally different mindset."

"I'm trying to get a base for the book so that there is some cohesiveness," Teigen continued.

Another place she draws inspiration from? Twitter. Notoriously outspoken on the social media platform, Teigen routinely poses questions to her followers asking for ideas, tips and secrets for making things happen in the kitchen. Because why Google something when you can just ask a million people the same question at once?

"I favorite all of them so I can have them all in one area," she told us with a laugh. Plus, she explained, it shows her fans that she still has a lot to learn when it comes to mastering everything in the kitchen.

"It's good that a lot of people see that I question things, too. I'm still learning! I get so many responses that open my eyes. It's cool for people to see that, because I don't know the answer to everything. I think one of the best things about Twitter is that you can be in a city and tweet them where you should go to eat, and they will all have answers. In one minute I can have 80,000 votes on a restaurant. It's pretty spectacular."

Considering Teigen's own penchant for travel and food and cooking, it was only natural for us to ask her whether she secretly has a dream to open her own restaurant.

"That's really tough," she said with a pause. "I don't want to think that I can just come in and run something like that, though. So, no!"

That being said, she did reveal to us that she has a pipe dream down the line of opening up another kind of establishment. One that, we have to be honest, sounds quite dreamy.

"I do have dreams of opening up a bed and breakfast one day," she said excitedly. "That would be my ultimate dream, where I have my dogs running around and we have a small, limited menu of things that we've been cooking in my family for a long time. Maybe four of five rooms. Didn't Richard Gere have one?"

We checked -- he does -- though, knowing how delicious Teigen's recipes taste, we're going to wait for her dream to become her reality.
