Sam Smith is almost unrecognizable in rare public appearance

That's Sam Smith?!

The "Stay With Me" hitmaker, who has been keeping an incredibly low profile for over a year now, stepped out this week for the YSL Beauty Club party in London, and we almost didn't recognize him.

Clad in a long-sleeved Heron Preston t-shirt, jeans and sneakers, the Grammy-winning singer looked slim as ever as he posed for photographers on the red carpet and inside the party. Smith has been slimming down ever since 2014, when "Stay With Me" became an international hit, but we definitely aren't used to seeing him like this -- and he looks great!

Smith, who has yet to release his follow-up to his acclaimed debut album In The Lonely Hour, has slowly been teasing new music on social media, sharing a handful of photos of himself inside recording studios. It's unclear when he plans on returning to the public eye, though.

The singer's last few major appearances came at Coachella 2016, where he showed up to perform hit single "Latch" with Disclosure, and at the 2016 Academy Awards, where he upset Lady Gaga to take home the Oscar for Best Original Song. He won for "Writings On The Wall," from the James Bond film "Spectre."

Here's to hoping we see Sam Smith more often in the second half of this year!
