Ivanka Trump to meet South Korean minister in light of Tillerson firing

Senior White House adviser and first family member Ivanka Trump is scheduled to meet South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha when she visits the U.S. following Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's abrupt Trump administration ouster.

The personnel changes for this meeting come after Ivanka Trump attended the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic games in February. Kang Kyung-wha and President Trump's eldest daughter were photographed together at the games while observing the competition and snapping photos with athletes.

Ivanka Trump's role in her father's White House administration has long been a subject of scrutiny, and her subbing in for a meeting with a foreign world leader could mean she will have an increased profile as rumors grow over further changes coming within the West Wing.

President Trump commented on his decision to replace the former Exxon CEO with CIA Director Mike Pompeo, saying he and Tillerson "disagree on a lot of things."

"When you look at the Iran deal, I thought it was terrible. He thought it was okay. I wanted to either break it or do something, he felt a little differently," Trump said. "I think Rex will be much happier now, but I really appreciate his service."

Tillerson announced earlier this week that he would remain in his post until March 31, at which point he will vacate his position and pave the way for a "smooth and orderly transition" for Secretary of State Designate Mike Pompeo.
