Barack Obama to return to political stage this fall with 'delicate dance'

Former President Barack Obama is set to return to the national political stage this fall, but Democratic insiders say his presence will likely be low key.

According to aides who spoke to The Hill, Obama won't be a Democratic poster face, but will rather help rebuild the embattled party that suffered a blow in the 2016 presidential election when their candidate -- Hillary Clinton -- lost to Donald Trump.

While Americans have seen the 44th president vacationing in Indonesia and speaking in Europe, he's been keeping fairly quiet publicly on matters of politics. He did, however, urge Congress not to repeal and replace his signature health care law -- the Affordable Care Act -- during a May speech as he accepted the Profiles in Courage Award.

Now reports are saying that behind the scenes, he's actually been quite active.

The Hill reports that he met with DNC Chairman Tom Perez in July and met with lawmakers to give guidance on several issues.

Although no formal schedule was given to The Hill, Obama will reportedly be fundraising and helping other Democrats campaign as 2018 midterm elections rev up.

One aide described his returns as the beginning of a "delicate dance" in getting back into the political mix.
