Winning the lottery makes you as happy as sleeping

You don't need to win the lottery to be happy and healthy. You just need to sleep!

According to new research from the University of Warwick in the UK, getting a good amount of sleep is a mood booster. It's apparently similar to winning up to $150,000 in the lottery. The study studied over 30,000 people in Britain.

The study found that those who slept well had higher scores on General Health Questionnaire. However, don't rely on sleep-aids to get that good night's sleep. According to the study, a bad night's sleep actually lowered people's scores.

Not only does bad sleep wreck havoc on a patient's wellbeing, health and happiness, it had an impact on productivity. Apparently, the UK loses over 200,000 working days a year from the public's lack of sleep. In a way, lack of sleep actually costs the government.

"It is refreshing to see the healing potential of sleep outside of clinical trial settings, as this goes to show that the benefits of better sleep are accessible to everyone and not reserved for those with extremely bad sleep requiring intensive treatments," said Dr. Tang, the project's researcher. She hopes it will influence future public health initiatives.

So, next time you think about skipping that extra hour of sleep, unless you've recently won the lottery, don't!
