'Queer Eye' star Antoni Porowski's weekly fitness routine will make you sore just thinking about it

Updated

Antoni Porowski, the culinary expert from Netflix's "Queer Eye," recently sent the internet into a complete meltdown when he showed off his chiseled physique in a Hanes underwear ad on Instagram.

In addition to appreciating the photo in all of its glory like the rest of Antoni's social media followers, the photo got us thinking: How does he look like that, while eating so much delicious looking food? In addition to frequently posting photos and videos from the gym, Antoni also cooks a new, decadent dish nearly every day that he documents the making of on his Instagram stories.

So, when we got the opportunity to catch up with the star at his Silk's Progress Is Perfection activation at The Coffee Shop in New York City, we had to ask: How much has he been working out? Let's just say that his answer makes a lot of sense.

"Last week, for example, on Monday I did Tone House in the morning, then a double SoulCycle in the afternoon," Antoni told AOL.com of his weekly workout schedule. "On Tuesday, I started out with hot pilates and then, in the afternoon, I did regular yoga. Then, on Wednesday, it was Barry’s Bootcamp and then I went to the regular gym in the afternoon. Thursday was SoulCycle in the morning and then I had private HIIT training in the afternoon. Friday I didn’t go at all because I was basically dead."

"I do it because I'm very hyper and I always have to keep going, so I don’t sleep well unless I’m very active," he added. "It’s about having to do that to feel normal. I don’t know whether that’s sustainable, but it’s working right now."

In addition to upping his workout frequency since "Queer Eye," the breakout star explained that he's also had to adjust his eating habits to keep up with the demands of those workouts and the press that he's been doing over the last several months.

"I was doing intermittent fasting for a really long time over the past six months, but now I’ve started to do cardio classes in the morning and I get so hungry afterwards, so I’ve had to shift it," Antoni said of his diet. "It’s all about being open-minded about what your body is like and what you need. Some people don’t need to eat until midday, but I’m not that person. I need fuel when I workout and when I don’t get it, I completely shut down and feel like I could pass out. My cast mate and dear friend Jonathan [Van Ness] taught me that, as well. A diet for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another."

"I recently had five 30 minute interviews with my manager, and we had a whole press day where I didn’t eat anything and I got so hangry," he went on. "I had a full shut-down, so now I always have salmon jerky, beef jerky or turkey jerky or some sort of good snack to munch on. I also usually start my day with a smoothie because it fills me up, and my new coffee one with Silk gets me caffeinated, too."

Another way Antoni has been able to maintain his physique while also allowing himself to indulge in the foods he loves is by eating differently during the weekends than he does during the week. He explained to us that he tries to stick to plant-based foods and fish for protein, while on the weekends he opts for "full-fat milk and a ton of butter and cheese and meat."

Check out Antoni's coffee banana smoothie recipe below:
