“I don’t think confidence has ever really been one of those things that came naturally for me,” Gaines tells the magazine.

She says as a child she got made fun of for being Asian.

But, she says, her struggles have made her understand that her purpose is to help people who are insecure.

She’s not just into fixing up homes, but fixing up people’s self image.

“I really felt like God was telling me that I would be able to help women who weren’t confident, who were looking for guidance or who were lonely.”

Joanna Gaines is expecting her fifth child with husband Chip Gaines later this year. "Fixer Upper" is currently in its final season.
