"Fixer Upper" star Joanna Gaines is sharing the everyday activity she says is “the best chance for all of us to really connect.”

"Dinner is synonymous with family time," Joanna added. "Recently, it has felt like the best chance for all of us to really connect -- something that I find myself wanting more of as my kids are getting older."

And that's becoming even more important as Joanna and her husband, Chip, gear up for their fifth child. They're currently expecting another child to join Duke, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie Kay, 7, in their busy household.

Joanna went even further, saying that when she cooks a meal "that it’s actually something that makes them feel cared for."

So much so that her children actually request to stay home for a home-cooked meal in lieu of going out to eat.

"I've noticed that the kids want to stay in even when we could go out," she explained. "Instead of dinner at a fun restaurant, they ask me to stay home and for me to cook."
