Selena Gomez's mom isn't handling her reunion with Justin Bieber very well

Selena Gomez's mother is having a difficult time comprehending her daughter's rekindled romance with ex Justin Bieber.

According to TMZ, Gomez's mother Mandy Teefey was hospitalized last week after a heated argument with Selena during which she found out that her daughter and Bieber had been going to couples therapy. The development indicated to Teefey that the reunion was going to be more long-term that she had initially realized, which sent her spiraling.

Police checked on Teefey at a Los Angeles hotel before she was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. She was placed on a voluntary hold and released that same day. TMZ reports that she's now giving her daughter some space as she navigates her reunion with Bieber.

Twitter account Pop Crave, which tracks stars' every move on social media, reported on Tuesday that Teefey and Gomez's rift is so bad that they also unfollowed each other on Instagram.

An unnamed member of Gomez's family had told TMZ in October that Bieber "will never be accepted" by those closest to her.

"Justin is a vile human," the family member said. "As long as she is even speaking to him in any way, it is not only disrespectful to everyone around her, it is disrespectful to herself."

Clearly, Gomez doesn't feel the same way.

The developments come as the "Hands To Myself" singer and Bieber continue to enjoy their romantic reunion about a month-and-a-half in. Just this weekend, the pair jetted off to Seattle, where they were spotted packing on the PDA at the Sugar Factory with friends.

And, according to one source, though Gomez's family may consider Bieber to be a bad person, they don't know the new person that he's become.

"Selena is 100 percent the reason Justin turned his life around," the source told ET. "She's the one that got him involved with church and that opened up a whole new group of friends to him too."

Gomez and Bieber both regularly attend Hillsong services.

"Justin wants to be a better man because he doesn't want to screw things up with Selena," the insider added. "He knows he's lucky to have this second chance and he's not taking it for granted. And the truth is, this 'transformation' hasn't been all that difficult for him because he wants it."
