'Real Housewives of New York' star Dorinda Medley on why the current cast works: 'We all have something to offer'

Updated

Dorinda Medley is resolute about why she thinks the current cast of Bravo's "Real Housewives of New York" meshes so well together.

"They're the same in real life as they are on TV," Medley told AOL Entertainment during a recent holiday cocktail party she threw with HomeGoods at her Upper East Side apartment. "I think that's why it works. Clearly I'm biased, but I think our Housewives [franchise] is the most authentic."

Medley hopes to return for season 10 of "New York" along with Bethenny Frankel, Ramona Singer, Sonja Morgan, Luann de Lesseps, Carole Radziwill and Tinsley Mortimer, and she likens the dynamic cast of women to another iconic group of New York ladies.

"We all have something to offer, and it's all very different, but somehow when we come together it works," Medley explained. "We're like that old school 'Sex and the City.' We really are. It's funny because each of us are successful women with a lot going on in our lives, and we're all characters."

"What's more exciting than watching women eat, sleep, breathe and shop in the best city in the world?" she asked. "We live the city. We live it, and filming is so easy because we're just us."

Medley, who told us that she thinks she could just as easily star on "Real Housewives of New Jersey," has established herself as a key player on the show throughout her first three seasons as a cast member and has delivered more than her fair share of iconic one-liners that will live on in "Real Housewives" history. Whether it's "I made it nice!" or "Not well b-tch!" or simply "Clip!," Medley has become a fan-favorite for her candid approach to the show coupled with her big heart.

Whether it's welcoming the girls to her sanctuary in the Berkshires every season to always being there to support another cast mate, Medley has been incredibly generous throughout her run on "Real Housewives," which is something that translates to her everyday life. The reality TV star recently opened up her apartment to an intimate group for a festive cocktail party to kick off the holiday season, and she decked out her gorgeous two-bedroom in HomeGoods decorations.

"I usually don’t decorate as much here," Medley said of her apartment, noting that she goes big in the Berkshires instead. "I start decorating October 1, though, and people think I have small kids here. I’m a big decorator, but with this partnership I decided to really blow it out this year and let the city people see what I do in the country. Not everybody makes it up there!"

And to do it big, she needed to hone her vision for what she wanted her apartment to look like, because when it comes to Christmas, Dorinda Medley means business.

"I have a strategy when I decorate, and I went into this year with a theme. I told HomeGoods I wanted to do an 'old Christmas' theme, so when you walk into my house you feel like you’re at your grandmother’s house, and it makes you believe in Santa Claus again," Medley gushed. "I was already thinking of freshening it up with something and said to myself, ‘I want to do snow globes this year. I want to do a full table of snow globes in the Berkshires.’ I walk into HomeGoods and what’s there? Thousands of snow globes."

Don't be surprised if you see snow globes on the upcoming season of "Real Housewives of New York," either.

"When the girls film at my house, I'll let them take one home!" Dorinda told us.

Talk about making it nice!
