JoJo Fletcher reveals one 'really important' thing she and Jordan Rodgers did after 'The Bachelorette'

Updated

JoJo Fletcher looks back at the year since finding love with Jordan Rodgers on "The Bachelorette" and considers one move they made as a couple to be "really important" for the health of their relationship.

Speaking exclusively to AOL Entertainment earlier this week at the St. Ives Mixing Bar in New York City, Fletcher explained to us that, while both she and Rodgers remain "loyal" to the show that brought them together, they needed to step away from the spotlight to establish their lives together.

"We are both so thankful to the show, we're very loyal and we're blessed that this has all happened," she told us. "But, it was also really important for us to take a huge step back after we got engaged to remove ourselves [from the spotlight], because we really needed that time to be away from everything we were so immersed in before. We got busy doing our own things and getting back to the stuff we were doing before. It was really important that we didn't just float around Bachelor Nation right after ["The Bachelorette"] and really try to jump back into normal life."

Though that "normal life" still includes hanging out with fellow Bachelor Nation mainstays like Becca Tilley, Fletcher's day-to-day life seems remarkably, well, normal.

"I have a flip house that I'm doing right now, and I'm in the mess of it," she said with a laugh. "I'm in the construction dust, I'm breaking down walls, I'm going to Home Depot, like, 10 times a day. It's not as glamorous as it looks [on HGTV]!"

Fletcher, 26, said that another thing she's learned since becoming a household name on Ben Higgins' season of "The Bachelor" and her own season of "The Bachelorette" is how to handle criticism and dispel negativity. She told us that she's "grown a way thicker skin."

"It's made me more confident," she said with a smile.

That confidence carries over to being a role model and someone that members of Bachelor Nation can look up to. Fletcher fields questions from fans all the time on social media about skincare, beauty and fashion, and she is continually curious about trying out new products and treatments.

"I love trying new skincare products," Fletcher said. "I always feel like it's important to give your skin a break and go with natural ingredients. Luckily for me, I'm not super sensitive, but I always tell my girlfriends who are struggling to figure out why they're breaking out to just go all natural."

Since being thrust into the spotlight on national television, Fletcher, who told us that the St. Ives Apricot Scrub is the first scrub that both she and Rodgers ever used, has become even more cognizant about taking care of her skin, too.

"In the last couple of years, skincare has really taken a forefront in my regimen," she explained. "With all the makeup and lights, your skin takes a beating. I'm really focused on keeping my skin healthy, because no matter how great your makeup is, if you don't have a great foundation, then you're gonna have problems."
