What does Joe Jonas have in common with Paul McCartney in Hot 100 history?

Joe Jonas' Comeback Song "Cake By the Ocean" with Band DNCE

Joe Jonas' new group is off to a Fab start.

As previously reported, the Jonas-fronted DNCE jumps 41-26 on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated Jan. 23) with its debut Republic Records single "Cake by the Ocean."

Hot 100 Chart Moves: DNCE's 'Cake' Rises, Taylor Swift's 'Woods' Returns

When considering Jonas' full chart history, the rise of "Cake" places him in elite territory, as Jonas has now hit the Hot 100's top 40 under three billings: before DNCE, he tallied 10 top 40 hits in 2007-09 as part of Jonas Brothers, while he notched two as a soloist in 2008.

Jonas, thus, joins a select cluster of chart veterans who've scored such a triple, led by, most prominently, Paul McCartney. With the Beatles, Macca tallied 50 top 40 Hot 100 hits. Wings notched 23 (some credited to Paul McCartney & Wings), and McCartney has added 31 more solo (apart from Wings billings), including pairings with his late wife Linda, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and, most recently, Rihanna and Kanye West.

Joe Jonas Puts His Disney Past Behind Him With New Pop-Rock Group DNCE: 'It's a Big Risk'

Jonas and McCartney are joined by other choice company. Other acts that have hit the Hot 100's top 40 solo and with at least two groups: Paul Carrack, Ice Cube, Johnny Gill, CeeLo Green, Ted Nugent, Donny Osmond, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Paul Rodgers, Tommy Shaw and John Waite.

Meanwhile, Eric Clapton has hit the Hot 100's top 40 as a soloist and with three groups: Cream, Derek & the Dominos and the Yardbirds.

Near-miss: McCartney's fellow Beatle George Harrison, along with Tom Petty, would make the cut if supergroup Traveling Wilburys (also featuring Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and ELO's Jeff Lynne) had risen five notches higher with "Handle With Care." The all-star single (from the first of the band's two albums) hit No. 45 on the Hot 100 in 1988.

Rewinding The Charts: USA For Africa's 'We Are The World' Tops Hot 100

And, honorable mention to acts that could be included if considering one-time charity acts, like USA for Africa (of which Dylan was a part), which crowned the Hot 100 for four weeks in 1985 with "We Are the World": the ballad's writers, Jackson (Jackson 5) and Lionel Richie (Commodores), as well as (among soloists on the song), Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, Paul Simon and Tina Turner.

(Other one-offs, including Band-Aid, Dionne & Friends and Voices That Care, among others, would add more acts to the three-fer honor roll.)

One more honorable mention: to Joe Jonas' former Jonas Brothers brother (and still real-life brother ...;) Kevin Jonas, for getting in on the guessing as to who has achieved the feat:

If Grohl can score a solo top 40 entry on the Hot 100, to go along with hits that he's notched with Nirvana and Foo Fighters, you'll be correct, Kevin!
