Gigi Hadid impersonates Melania Trump and Jay Pharoah pokes fun at Donald Trump while opening the 2016 American Music Awards.

Gigi Hadid and Jay Pharoah opened the 2016 American Music Awards on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles with a slew of gags that referenced future first couple Donald and Melania Trump.

After Pharoah delivered his iconic impression of Jay-Z, which he made famous while still on "Saturday Night Live," Hadid revealed that she had been working on an impression of her own: Melania Trump.

After furrowing her brow and widening her eyes, Hadid looked squarely into the camera and delivered an impression that was well-received by the laughing crowd.

"I love my husband, President Barack Obama," Hadid said as she laid on a thick accent. "And our children, Sasha and Malia."

The quick impression was making an obvious reference to Melania's plagiarized speech from the Republican National Convention in July.

Pharoah also used his platform to make fun of one of the Trumps.

"I don't know what color he is, so I can't deport him," Pharoah said about singer Bruno Mars while impersonating Donald. "Did you know that 'Uptown Funk' was originally called 'Uptown Trump?' I'm going to funk this country up bigly."

The pair also used the stunning results of the 2016 presidential election to note that the night felt kind of like a throwback to a different era in this country.

"A Tribe Called Quest has a new number one album, Jenny McCarthy is here and a white guy is president ... it's the '90s all over again!"
