'Rising Star': One Singer's Powerful Story Chokes Up One Of The Judges

On "Rising Star," performer Karen Hornsby had a story -- and a voice -- that left Kesha choked up and holding back tears. She sang "To Love You More" for the judges.

Karen Hornsby is 36 years old and the mother of a young girl who was diagnosed with brain cancer as an infant. Her daughter's health complications led to her losing her sight and having difficulty with speech. Kesha had to hold back tears after hearing Karen's extremely moving story.

Kesha was emotional, saying, "I just -- your voice is amazing, like you're such a good mom, so I just voted yes 'cause I love you."

Even with emotional praise from Kesha, CarterMatt was less than impressed with Karen's performance: "How did she advance? Maybe it was her emotional story, because there wasn't a whole lot that she brought to the table here vocally. A lot of missed notes, even if her energy was high."

Still, fans took to Twitter to talk about her powerful performance ... many tweeting that her story left them in tears.

And as AllVoices pointed out, beginning next week the judges will take over mentoring duties from Josh Grobin as the singers go head to head in a duel-style competition.
