SiriusXM fires 'Opie & Anthony' host over tweets

NEW YORK (AP) - Anthony Cumia of the "Opie & Anthony" radio show has been fired by SiriusXM, who cited his "racially charged" and "hate-filled" remarks on Twitter as the reason.

SiriusXM spokesman Patrick Reilly said Friday that Cumia's remarks and postings were "abhorrent" to the satellite radio company.

In addition to racial remarks, they also included tweets and retweets that were degrading to women.

Reilly says the shock jock was fired late Thursday.

Cumia's response Friday on Twitter included an obscenity in relation to SiriusXM. He says he was fired over material that was not aired and was not illegal.

Typical of liberal AOL to censor the facts about what led to all this. HERE ARE THE FACTS: Anthony was in Times Square and Inadvertently took a photo of a black woman. She started an argument with him, while calling him racist names. Then she physically attacked him, punching him several times. Then several black males joined in. We’re now in a place here in the U.S. where a minority can physically attack someone for inadvertently taking their photo in a public place, and if you’re white, you’re required to smile and take it. She can speak to HIM in a racist way, but HE’S the racist for calling it like it is. See what’s going on? Kudos to Anthony for showing physical restraint because as a rare concealed carry permit holder in NYC, it probably would’ve been legally justified if he shot her in self defense. Sad, isn’t it? We’ve seen this kind of excused reversed racism over and over. Without a doubt, we’ve created a protected class here in the U.S. I can Hear Eric Holder coming now.

What were the racially charged remarks? The short uninformative article doesn't say what they were, because they were not racist, just rude.

Anthony Cumia acts like a 12 year old on a testerone overload. Neither he or Opie are that funny. No doubt their audience demographics are between 15 to 24 year olds.

And yet Rush Limbaugh 'runs rampant' and gets away with anything and everything. I suppose then that when you're an addict, it 'gives you brownie points?

Oh well, free speech is guaranteed by the constitution, what is not guaranteed is the consequences. People can say whatever they want, just don't be surprised by the reaction or backlash. Anyone remember the dixiechicks?

Since when has Opie and Anthony not been abhorrent and offensive? Remember the St. Patrick's broadcast that got them fired a few years back?

Isn't that the one which simulated two people having sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral, and I believe it was on the Feast of the Assumption, in 2002, one of the 6 holydays on the Roman Catholic calendar. I believe this was when they were with WNEW-FM. The church sued to have the station's licence pulled, but the station fired them, but paid them for what remained on their contract to preclude then suing, and the church dropped its action.

That's sounds like the way to get fired. Not eating spaghetti and half way through that disturbed and off to the VP when they fire you and say because of this incident ( 2nd hand offensive word said ) and things in the past we got to let you go. And 24 years. Boy I hope they got to 10 dollars an hour before being fired! But then I don't imagine these two guys register in the Corporate Dung ladder the stature a Janitor would at a religious college?
