If there is one thing Karl Anthony Towns is looking forward to most in the upcoming season, it's overcoming the many obstacles the Minnesota Timberwolves faced last year.

AOL Sports caught up with the NBA star at Gatorade's Player of the Year awards on Monday night and he revealed what the team has been working on this summer.

"We have a great process going on right now, with a great coaching staff, great organization with the experience to help us get to that level that we want to be at," said Towns, who averaged 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. "For us, we just have to continue to execute in all aspects and now it's up to us as players to use the experience we have to our advantage."

There's plenty of reasons to believe this group will become one of the most fun teams to watch and perhaps crash the Western Conference playoffs. For starters, just look at players such as Towns, Andrew Wiggins and fifth overall pick Kris Dunn, who has impressed in the Las Vegas Summer League.

The Timberwolves have been quietly making all the right moves (such as the hiring of Tom Thibodeau, drafting Dunn) and you have to figure the calculated moves will eventually lead them towards the path of success.

"[We need] to understand and digest all the information that we learned last year and use that to our advantage," Towns said. "Understand how to overcome certain obstacles that we were together for, were able to experience and learn how we can overcome [them] to be better next time."

But what is the biggest lesson Towns learned from his rookie year?

"Our team is VERY talented and we could do a lot of special things," he said enthusiastically. He also added that playing for Minnesota is the perfect fit for him and his family and hopes to play with the Timberwolves for "many more years."
