Police looking for Florida man who asked Walmart salesperson for help finding something 'that would kill 200 people'

Authorities in Florida are searching for a man who allegedly told a Walmart employee he was looking for a weapon "that would kill 200 people," according to ABC News.

The reported incident, which comes less than a week after a mass shooting killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, occurred Wednesday evening in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Police say the man approached a sales clerk and asked, "Can you sell me anything that would kill 200 people?" The man, who was captured on security footage, is described as being in his 50s or 60s.

The employee reportedly responded by saying, "That isn't funny," to which the man replied, "I know," before repeating his question. Police say the man left the scene after the conversation and has yet to be identified.

The incident comes after a weekend in which two mass shootings — in El Paso, Texas, and in Dayton, Ohio, where a gunman killed nine people and left dozens more injured — resulted in a total of 31 deaths.

Numerous threats involving Walmart stores have left customers and employees frightened since then.

On Sunday, a Florida man called into a Walmart saying he'd be there in five minutes to "shoot up" the store. On Wednesday, a Walmart in Weslaco, Texas, was evacuated after a 13-year-old made threats against the location on social media.

Many Walmart employees have expressed concern over the sale of weapons at the store. There is a petition on Change.org to ban the company from selling firearms, and workers at numerous locations have threatened walkouts if something is not changed.
