Donald and Melania Trump's most awkward body language moments of 2017

Updated

President Donald Trump made waves and garnered unprecedented media coverage during his first year in office, especially with his bombastic commentary, but few could have predicted this time last year that his interactions with first lady Melania Trump would turn out to grasp the national attention as they have.

As they took the White House by storm and toured the world together, the first couple's sometimes "bizarre" behavior captured national attention repeatedly throughout the year. The first big instance came during Trump's inauguration when a video of Melania Trump looking "petrified" at the ceremony made rounds on social media and prompted the infamous hashtag #FreeMelania.

In a short clip, the first lady can be seen smiling at her husband during the event, but the moment he looks away, her smile disappears into a somber scowl.

Months later, while traveling on his first major trip abroad with the first lady, they made waves once again as Melania Trump appeared to slap the president's hand away when he reached for hers on the tarmac in Tel Aviv.

The couple had arrived in the Israeli city on the second leg of their foreign journey when the moment dominated global headlines, but soon again footage of their body language went viral when a clip showing them exiting the Air Force One in Rome emerged.

Upon reaching for his wife's hand as they departed the plane, the first lady seemed to pull her hand away as she abruptly fixes her hair, after which Trump rests his hand on her rear end instead.
