Woman shares picture of mark on her fingernail that turned out to be a sign of cancer

A woman is hoping to educate others after sharing a warning in which she claimed that finding a dark line down your fingernail could be a sign of cancer.

According to Jean Skinner, a manicurist from southern England, one of her clients came in looking for a nail polish dark enough to cover a black line on her nail.

Skinner, wary of the customer's dark stripe, urged her to visit a doctor about the strange mark and claims the client later found out it was a sign of melanoma, a form of skin cancer.

Skinner described the client as having “a straight dark vertical stripe down her nail" in her Facebook post, in which, Skinner said her customer informed her that various salons suggested the mysterious line could be due to a lack of calcium, hereditary or a blood blister.

“This is melanoma!!!” Skinner wrote. “I did not want to frighten her but I told her she needed to see her doctor immediately! She called me today to tell me that yes it was a very aggressive melanoma that has already spread to her lymph nodes!! Her prognosis is not good!”

Now, Skinner is urging others to be observant of any abnormalities in their nail beds, although she adds that “odd changes in your nails can very likely be nothing to worry about.”
