President Donald Trump held a news conference on Thursday to reveal his new nominee to lead the Department of Labor, Alexander Acosta, following the withdrawal of his original pick, Andrew Puzder.

During the Q&A session of the address, which was Trump's first solo press conference since taking office, April Ryan, the White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, asked the president if he planned to include the Congressional Black Caucus in discussions about his inner-city agenda.

"I would," he responded. "I'll tell you what, do you want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours?"

"No no no no, I'm just a reporter," replied a taken-a-back Ryan.

Many people have taken to social media to express their anger over Trump's response to Ryan, saying that he treated her like a "secretary" and claiming he acted as if "all black people know each other."

Check out some of the heated responses on Twitter:

Hey @realDonaldTrump: @AprilDRyan is a honest & professional reporter. She's not your secretary. @Reince knows @RepRichmond's number. Use it
Trump called himself the least racist person then assumed a random black reporter could set up a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus
@BuzzFeedNews "I'm like the least racist person ever" "Hey, you're black, I assume you're friends with all other black ppl right?"
@MadMommaC @BuzzFeedNews Yes, in fact, we do. We get together often at Fred Douglass' house in the inner city.

Did he just say to @AprilDRyan "your people"? #trumpnewsconference
When Trump asked @AprilDRyan if she was friends with the @OfficialCBC and if she could set up a meeting, my head nearly exploded... 1/2
2/2 ... Newsflash Mr. Trump: 1) Not all black ppl know each other, and 2) @AprilDRyan is a professional journalist, not your secretary!
Dear @AprilDRyan. We all saw that. It was racist as hell. Our president owes you an apology.
Did Trump seriously ask @AprilDRyan to set up a meeting with him and the CBC? Does he not understand how any of this works?

The CBC issued a response to Trump on Twitter following the conference, saying that they had, in fact, tried to set up a meeting with the president -- an invitation to which they claim they received no response.
