WATCH LIVE: President Donald Trump holds news conference to announce new labor secretary pick

Update: This event has ended

The White House announced on Thursday morning that President Donald Trump will hold a news conference later today to reveal his new nominee to lead the Department of Labor.

The announcement comes one day after Andrew Puzder removed his name from consideration for the role amid mounting controversy.

Puzder, a fast-food executive, came under fire during the course of his nomination process for a series of minor issues, including his admission that he had unknowingly employed an undocumented immigrant.

But he formally withdrew himself from the running for the position on the same day that a video clip emerged from an Oprah Winfrey interview in which Puzder's ex-wife claimed he abused her.

The news conference is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. EST.
