An Australian sculptor has created a model of what the human body would have to look like to survive a car crash -- and it's the stuff of nightmares.

The artist, Melbourne-based Patricia Piccinini, teamed up with trauma surgeon Christian Kenfield and crash investigator David Logan to design the model, named "Graham."

This is all part of a car safety campaign; not only is Graham different than the dull "wear your seat belts" advertisements we usually see, it's also different from PSAs that use scare tactics to make us follow safety precautions.

This campaign was funded by Australia's Transport Accident Commission.

Graham is touted as "the only person designed to survive on our roads," and is the imagined result of years of evolution to be able to withstand crashes.

The Commission's CEO, Joe Calafiore, said, "Cars have evolved a lot faster than humans and Graham helps us understand why we need to improve every aspect of our roads system to protect ourselves from our own mistakes."

He continued, "We have to accept people will always make mistakes, but modern vehicle safety technology and safe road design can drastically reduce the forces involved when a crash happens, making them more survivable."

If you so choose, you can even interact with Graham online and see features like what's underneath his skin. People in Australia can see him in person, which is a blessing or curse depending on your opinion on Graham.

What's more, a curriculum has been developed for Australian schoolchildren to learn about Graham -- and car safety.

So while Graham may be pretty unsightly, he has an important purpose. We may remember to buckle up knowing it's only safe not to do so if we look like Graham...which isn't ideal.
