Here's how Meghan Markle packs for a long trip, including her most recent royal tour of Africa

Packing for a long trip is hard enough without the pressure of being a royal and knowing that the world is waiting to watch your every move and criticize every outfit. Nonetheless, Meghan Markle is only on day two of her and Prince Harry's 10-day South African royal tour, and so far she's looked nothing less than stunning.

So far, Meghan has worn a blue Veronica Beard dress that she previously wore on her royal tour of the Pacific last fall, a casual Madewell denim jacket and nude pointed-toe flats by Sam Edelman.

While one might assume that the Duchess of Sussex has tons of help from stylists while abroad, the truth is that every outfit comes down to meticulous planning and careful packing.

Katie Couric recently interviewed Omid Scobie, royal editor of Harper’s Bazaar and a royal contributor to Good Morning America, for her newsletter, Wake-Up Call, where Scobie revealed exactly how the duchess packs for a royal tour.

"Their team on the ground here is light (just one palace assistant!), so extra care goes into packing each outfit before they leave the U.K. — color-coded garment bags, tissue paper between each piece as its placed in suitcases," he said. "The amount of planning that goes into tour wardrobes is nothing short of impressive."

Folding tissue paper inside or between garments is an easy way to prevent clothes from wrinkling while traveling, and can also be used to protect delicate items and help shoes and bags maintain their shape.

Packing outfits into color-coded garment bags is a new level of organization, though. If you want to give it a run yourself, try separating outfits or separating items of clothing into categories using packing cubes. (If you're not as worried about wrinkles, they can also help you compress your items so you can pack in more!)

As for what types of clothes Meghan typically packs, she tends to dress casually during the day and likes to wear designers from the area of travel.

"I hear that Meghan will be acknowledging local designers throughout the trip, having carefully selected pieces by emerging South African designers to mix in with her own favorites. And keep an eye out for item or two from her recently-released Smart Works collection!" Scobie said.
