Gigi Hadid suffers wardrobe malfunction at NYFW, but recovers beautifully

When Gigi Hadid stepped onto the Marc Jacobs Spring 2020 runway at New York Fashion Week on Tuesday, Sept. 10, people couldn't help but notice that the model wasn't wearing any shoes. However, she walked so beautifully, up on her toes as if she were wearing imaginary heels, that some weren't sure if the look was intentional for the whimsical show, or not.

A few days later, stylist Katie Grand posted a clip of Gigi's now-famous walk to Instagram to give more context behind the moment, clarifying that Gigi's barefoot strut was all due to a wardrobe malfunction.

According to Grand, at the beginning of the show, every model took to the runway like an opening "finale," where Gigi wore tall silver socks with white leather mules. Unfortunately, that's where the heel of her shoe broke.

"Since we were at the other end of [The Park Avenue Armory], there wasn't much we could do other than either fake a non broken heel or rip off her socks and shoes and send her out barefoot, which we did, and was all the more natural for it," she wrote in the caption to a video of Gigi walking barefoot.

Designer Marc Jacobs confirmed in Grand's comments section that he was more than pleased with Gigi's final look, writing, "A perfect mishap. Sometimes only when something goes wrong does everything go right. Don’t you think?? ♥️♥️♥️"

Gigi, who has walked in Marc Jacobs' runway show several times before, posted the clip of her walking barefoot on her own Instagram.

"Walking in a dream ✨ Thank you so much for including me in one of the most incredible shows I’ve ever seen @marcjacobs 💖 (sometimes a lil wardrobe malfunction can lead to the magic moments😁) I love you @themarcjacobs @kegrand; experiencing your creative ride is surreal, inspiring, and joyful. I am so grateful for time spent with you, and I will always cherish these memories," she captioned the post.
