A look back at Sarah Jessica Parker's Met Gala style

Updated

When you think of the Met Gala, what comes to mind? Celebrity couples like Ryan and Blake? An appearance by the Anna Wintour? For us, it's three words: Sarah Jessica Parker.

SJP arguably hails as one of the most anticipated guests of the night -- it's because of her ability to blend fashion and television, as well as her incredible longstanding ability to see ahead of the trends, while redefining them herself. She's not just a performer; she's a designer, a fashion connoisseur and longtime confidant of the fashion world's most famous faces, including Alexander McQueen, Oscar de la Renta and Valentino Garavani.

It's been more than 30 years since SJP shot to stardom -- and for every single red carpet she's walked, she's left more and more people in awe.

Of course, she also created one of the most well-known fictional characters in fashion history. Or the most fashionable character in scripted television's history -- however you want to look at it. Our point is: SJP is a queen. She's our queen.

Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, to this day, has influenced millions of women around the world -- and we're not just talking about what physically goes into their closets. She's inspired them to take risks, go against the grain and be confident -- even if it means proudly sporting a giant mohawk to a black tie function (see the 2013 Met Gala).

Her Met Gala evolution has proven this.

This year's Met Gala theme is "Camp: Notes on Fashion," so it'll be interesting to see how SJP, a fan of structured silhouettes and long trains, interprets it. She first attended the Met Gala in 1995 in a simple black velvet gown, but she didn't return again until 2006. All eyes will be on SJP for this year's "Oscars of Fashion."
