7 knife sets that any home cook would love to own

When it comes to chopping veggies, cutting fruit or slicing meat, having a fantastic knife makes all the difference. We caught up with the experts at Sasaki, a high quality Japanese knife company, to get us the inside scoop on finding the right knife as well as cutlery care tips.

First up, they stressed that you want to look for a high quality option, even if it comes with a higher price tag: "Look for a fully forged knife with a full tang construction and a high carbon Japanese steel or German Steel blade."

The experts also explained that putting your knives in the dishwasher can severely damage them unless stated.

"Always hand wash knives with warm soapy water and dry immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Never soak or submerge knives in water and never put knives in the dishwasher (unless it’s clearly stated to do so on the packaging). In the dishwasher, knives can be damaged by acid, food remnants, and chemicals, electrolytic oxidation caused by various metals in the same wash, prolonged high temperatures, and the drying cycle."

And finally when it comes to storage, "always store your knives in a safe place, such as a cutlery block, sheath, in-drawer organizer, or on a magnetic bar. This will protect the blade from damage and keeps hands protected."
