Duchess Meghan's best looks in 2018

Updated

Let's face it: It's been quite the year for Meghan Markle.

In the past 12 months alone, the 37 year old from California has married a prince, earned a royal title as the Duchess of Sussex, traveled the world, moved into Kensington Palace -- and will move into Frogmore House sometime soon -- and announced her pregnancy. If that's not a real-life fairytale, then we don't know what is.

In joining the royal family, the former actress has also had to learn to adhere to some strict royal rules -- one of the most stringent being royal fashion.

Pantyhose, covered shoulders, conservative hemlines and loose tailoring all fit together into a nicely polished look -- it's a precedent that the queen has set, and one that Duchess Kate has followed meticulously. But it's also a protocol that Meghan has put her own American spin on, albeit a few bumps and bruises along the way.

Slits and style malfunctions (remember that sheer skirt in New Zealand?) are only part of the learning process.

Enter: pantsuits, tuxedo dresses, messy buns and leather skirts -- with our favorites being a sunshine yellow Brandon Maxwell dress, sophisticated Fiji blue black tie gown and intricate Oscar de la Renta ball gown. We're confident the duchess will continue to challenge the status quo with her bold style.
