Royal insiders reveal Meghan Markle has a sweet Princess Diana-related nickname: Report

Meghan Markle has been part of the royal family for less than a year, but it's pretty clear to see she’s fitting right in, even drawing some comparisons to Princess Diana.

The Duchess of Sussex seems to always find a way to honor her mother-in-law. Most recently, the 37-year-old royal chose an aquamarine ring from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection for a reception in Tonga. The duchess was gifted the ring by Prince Harry on the couple's wedding day, and debuted it during their reception back in May.

But Meghan's similarities to the late Diana go far beyond her fashion taste. It's evident in her passion in giving back and using her platform as a royal to make a difference.

According to Vanity Fair, it's her philanthropic spirit that's consequented in her being nicknamed “Di 2.”

“I’ve heard the duchess is referred to as Di 2, because of the similarities to Harry’s mother. It’s meant affectionately, and I think it’s quite true—they are rather alike,” said an insider to the publication.

Even Palace outsiders are reminded of these similarities. Explained photographer Mark Stewart, "I’m often reminded of Diana when I photograph Meghan."

"The way Meghan is with people reminds me of Diana," he continued. "The way she bends down to interact with children, there’s a natural empathy and humanitarianism."
