Mitt Romney and wife Ann Romney make an appearance on the Met Gala red carpet

Updated

The Met Gala is no stranger to famous faces -- and we're not just talking about top notch designers, supermodels and singers. Royals such as Princess Diana and Princess Beatrice have all made appearances, alongside athletes such as Tom Brady, Carmelo Anthony, A-rod and Derek Jeter.

Very rarely do political faces dabble at fashion's biggest night out -- unless you're reality-star-turned-POTUS like Donald Trump, who has attended the Met Gala nine different times.

At Monday's event, however, president-hopeful Mitt Romney took the Met Gala red carpet alongside wife Ann. For the annual extravaganza, themed Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, the politician stuck with a black tux while Ann sported a long-sleeved emerald green gown.

Met Gala enthusiasts took to Twitter to express their confusion on the politician's attendance at the fundraiser. Same.
