NYFW: BCBGMAXAZRIA creative director on his 'rough glamour' Fall '18 collection

There are two words that Bernd Kroeber wants us all to know when thinking of his BCBGMAXAZRIA Fall/Winter '18 collection -- "modern" and "romantic."

The newly appointed creative director (who has worked for the label for 10 years) debuted his second collection on Friday during New York Fashion Week. "The title is 'rough glamour' and I really wanted to focus on the new BCBGMAXAZRIA. This is the fusion of modern and romantic. We really explored the contrast of femininity, masculine, hard and soft, playful and strict, but at the same time in a very effortless manner - because that's what BCBGMAXAZRIA stands for," Kroeber said to AOL Lifestyle.

The collection fell nothing short of creative. The brand partnered up with five female artists, including fashion illustrator Blair Breitenstein, to create artwork that was incorporated into the venue. The clothing offered a mix of masculinity and femininity and embodied the aura of 'rough-glamour'. From cropped biker jackets styled over a tiered ruffle gown to a structured jacket paired with high-waisted cargo pants, the contrast between playful and strict was evident.

When asked how the brand has changed the most since he first started in 2007, Kroeber said, "we really want to focus on the fusion of modern and romantic. It is the 21st century and we want to focus back on BCBG's essential roots, which is effortless fashion."
