Hairstylist posts viral photo of client's hair to detail the truth about depression

One stylist is being praised for going above and beyond in helping a woman in need.

Kate Langman is an employee at The Salon, part of a local Ulta Beauty, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She noticed a customer struggling to chose from the variety of different products and offered her help. The young woman, Kelly, divulged to Kate that she was struggling with deep depression.

The woman was unable to get out of bed for 6 months. It "meant she didn't wash her hair or brush it. She kept pulling it back into this bun which after that long of time turned into a huge dread lock," Kate said.

Her hair was matted together, in giant knots. It wasn't the appearance that mattered to Kate, but the feelings associated with it.

Kate wanted to help her and encouraged her to make an appointment.

"If I would have let her walk away with all of those products that she spent a hundreds of dollars on, she would have gotten nowhere — which she would have possibly viewed as another failure for her," she said to the Huffington Post.

But, the young woman was a no show, twice. "It actually, kind of, broke my heart," Kate wrote.

A few weeks later, the young woman showed up at the salon. "When she walked in that [day], I had a feeling of relief that she still had the drive to feel like herself again," she said.

Kate posted her client's powerful story to Facebook, where it has since gone viral.

"I, of course, said yes. I didn't care how late I stayed, I wanted to make sure she got taken care of," she said. Almost 9 hours later, Kate helped the woman look like herself again.

"By the end of this service, I could see the sparkle in her eyes and I could see her cheeks get rosy pink from the excitement of not only being able to run her fingers through her hair again, but she felt herself again. I changed someone's life today.. & I'll never ever forget it," she wrote.
