According to Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, Kate Middleton has Princess Diana to thank -- not just for her husband, but apparently also for her lifestyle. He says that much of what Diana did made Kate's life easier.

"She changed the rules. So Kate has a lot to be thankful for," he insisted.

He says that Diana paved the way, making it easier for Kate, who for example, was given coaching and lessons when Diana was not.

"We didn't protect Diana. We didn't cherish her. We didn't nurture her. And shame on us," he continued.

Then the interview took a bizarre turn, with Burell saying that he wants to speak with Kate -- even if William has tried to keep her away from him -- saying:

"The thing Diana and I talked about -- and the things we did in private -- and I don't suppose children want to know about their parents' adult life, but I could tell Kate."

Yeah, we're just as confused as you are.
