Debunked: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day

For generations we've been told breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

The basic logic that countless parents drilled into our heads is pretty simple: eat a healthy breakfast every day and you'll lead a better, healthier and more productive life.

Though parents hate being told they're wrong, science is calling their bluff.

Countless studies have been done on the benefits of breakfast, and what they found is a little more complicated than what countless cartoon spokespeople would have you believe.

As Aaron Carroll for the New York Times pointed out, a lot of the studies done on breakfast are bank rolled by the food industry.

Yes, there have been plenty of studies that show people who skip breakfast tend to put on weight but there's almost no proof that one causes the other.

Then there are all the studies that say kids who eat breakfast do better in school. However, that may have more to do with the fact that kids from wealthier homes eat breakfast more often.

So, while your parents will tell you to make sure to eat breakfast, the truth is they don't really have the science to back it up.
