Altuzarra Fall 2017 channels Lady Macbeth and the Renaissance era

"Look like th' innocent flower, but be the serpent under 't." - Lady Macbeth.

The quote helped to inspire the latest collection from Joseph Altuzarra, and it definitely resonated. He wanted to accomplish a few things with this collection: pull from the opulence of the Northern Renaissance, and show a complex side to his client.

And isn't that a theme we see running through much of fashion week right now? Designers, Like Altuzarra, are celebrating the complexities, strengths, and identities of women -- encouraging them to be fiercely themselves. As Altuzarra quotes Lady Macbeth speaking of secretly being a serpent, Prabal Gurung spoke of "femininity with a bite," and Naeem Khan's finale was set to Maya Angelou's words "we are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike."

The Renaissance influence was definitely felt throughout this collection, via necklines, embroideries, pearl headdresses and more. But it was grounded in the use of combat boots for shoes, and edgy elements like leather pants and ripped stockings.
