The story behind those neon yellow sneakers in Rio
If you watch the Rio Olympics as obsessively as we did, then you definitely noticed those blindingly-bright neon yellow sneakers the U.S. athletes wore when they accepted their medals.
What is it about neon that just goes with anything? Maybe it was the hint of green on the medal lanyards themselves, but the can't-miss volt-colored sneakers, called the Nike Free RN Flyknits, were just really on point.
The Olympians loved the Flyknits, too.
"Oh, we love these things. They're so bright," Simone Biles told USA TODAY, "You can't miss us. You can see them from a mile away."
Aly Raisman praised them, too, saying the bright yellow goes with just about everything. "It's very 2016. It's on trend."
So why yellow? Said Nike of the pair each victor wore, "Yellow is the most visible color to the human eye and volt is the most visible version of yellow." Talk about making a statement.
