Top events Americans want to travel to in 2019

2019 is shaping up to be a major year for the travel industry. Experts predict some of the biggest trends that will steer adventure seekers to destinations are the rise of the spontaneous traveler, scheduling trips during off-season and booking unique hotels with one-of-a-kind amenities.

While many U.S. travelers are saving up to travel to the most-visited destinations in the world, there are some who are also saving to experience major world events. Love Home Swap, a travel company inspired by the cult classic, "The Holiday," surveyed Americans to find out which events they're most excited for in 2019 -- and the answers may surprise you.

According to the data, 34 percent of survey respondents want to attend Oktoberfest in Munich this year. The Super Bowl in Atlanta (26 percent) and SOBE Food + Wine Fest in Miami (20 percent) followed as the second and third most-anticipated celebrations taking place in 2019. Wimbledon in London (18 percent), SXSW in Austin (16 percent) and Lollapalooza in Chicago (14 percent) closed out the top six global events Americans are most excited to attend.

Although these events are on Americans' travel bucket lists, only a staggering 45 percent plan to visit one of the destinations on their lists in the next five years. Many cite costs surrounding travel such as accommodations as the biggest deterrent.
