Amanda Bynes returns to social media after going off the grid for 9 months

Amanda Bynes has dramatically entered and exited the spotlight many times, but this time, she's re-emerging iwth a no-frills move: Just a simple selfie.

The 33-year-old posted a mirror pic on Instagram on Tuesday, breaking a nine-month streak of little interaction with the public. Assuming the photo is a recent snap, she's currently rocking long bright pink hair and side bangs. (Earlier this year, when she quietly graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, she had blonde hair with pink streaks.)

Although Bynes spoke candidly (and posed for gorgeous photos) in a November 2018 spread for Paper, we've heard and seen little of her in the months since. She was sober at the time of the interview and attributed past erratic behavior to drug abuse, but in March, reports emerged that she had relapsed.

The attention from the Paper interview reportedly contributed to Bynes' setback as she struggled to adjust to the feeling of renewed public pressure, according to Us Weekly.

In 2017, Bynes expressed a strong interest in returning to acting. In the late '90s and early 2000s, as she emerged as a Nickelodeon star and later took on film roles, she was widely seen as one of the most promising young comedic actresses in the industry.

One of her former Nick colleagues, Kel Mitchell, said in July that he'd love to have his "little sister" make a cameo appearance on the reboot of "All That," the sketch show that made Bynes a child star.

“That would be crazy! We really want her to do a cameo in All That. We’ve been talking about that,” Mitchell told People. “So, Amanda, come on, girl! Call ya brother up!”
