Kaitlynn is from Peterborough, New Hampshire and attended the University of New Hampshire, where she majored in English. She graduated in 2010 and subsequently started a style blog called Hey, Miss Carter. For several years, the 30-year-old was very active on the blog and nabbed a variety of high-profile brand partnerships with some big-time fashion companies.

In 2013, Kaitlynn met former star of MTV's "The Hills," Brody Jenner, who had previously dated the likes of Lauren Conrad and Avril Lavigne, at a party. They started dating around that time.

Several years into her lifestyle blogger stint, Kaitlynn channeled her expertise into an e-commerce platform called Foray Collective, which she started in 2015 with friend Tiana Haraguchi "to create a space where women could discover style inspiration and cutting-edge designers."

In 2016, Kaitlynn and Brody got engaged during a trip to Indonesia. Two years later, in 2018, they married in the same place surrounded by family and friends -- controversially, Brody's half-siblings, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, as well as his dad, Caitlyn Jenner, didn't attend the destination nuptials.

Towards the end of 2018 and into 2019, Kaitlynn and Brody filmed the first season of "The Hills: New Beginnings," which was a rebooted and reimagined version of the Los Angeles-based reality show, featuring most of the original cast (including Brody, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port and more) and a slew of new additions (including Kaitlynn, Misha Barton and Brandon Lee).

The show premiered in June to mixed reviews, though it's already been confirmed for a second season by MTV. Even from the first episode, it was clear that Kaitlynn and Brody argued a lot, with their relationship struggles being heavily highlighted on the show, including an argument over Brody avoiding confrontation with his wife by sleeping in his truck outside of their home in Malibu. During the fight, Brody called her a psychopath.

Two months later, on August 2, Kaitlynn and Brody confirmed that they were calling it quits with a joint statement.

"Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter have decided to amicably separate," they said. "They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward."

It was also revealed that Brody and Kaitlynn were actually never legally married in the United States, making their split a bit less complicated for them.

Several days later, Kaitlynn started sharing picturesque snaps from her girls' trip to Italy with Miley and her sister, Brandi. Fans weren't aware that they were ever friends, so the photos came as a bit of a surprise. Cut to August 10, and those who were speculating got their answers when photos of Miley and Kaitlynn snuggling up in Italy emerged online.

The photos elicited not only a response from Brody ("Watch out! Pics of Liam and I holding hands on the beach coming soon," he wrote on Instagram), but also a clap back from Miley saying, "go take a nap in your truck and cool off. #HotGirlSummer"

In the days since, sources revealed that Kaitlynn, Brody, Miley and Liam all became friends through living near one another in Malibu over the past several years. Last fall, when the area was hit with devastating wild fires, the two former couples grew even closer in the wake of tragedy.

Multiple reports cited insiders that said Miley and Kaitlynn have been "seeing each other" for "a couple months" (even though both announced their respective splits this month, they had both apparently separated weeks earlier).

TMZ reported that they "didn't start [hooking up] until they had both broken up with their spouses."
