Britney Spears floats 'conspiracy theory' of her own: 'Is the news really real?'

Updated

Britney Spears aired out a "conspiracy theory" of her own after photos surfaced of her soaking up the sun in Miami with her boyfriend, Sam Asghari.

The singer spent some quality time with her boyfriend in Florida over the weekend, and photos of the couple packing on the PDA on a yacht began to make the rounds online hours after their sun-filled date -- but Spears wasn't happy with how she appeared in the pictures, so she took to her Instagram story to share her thoughts.

"Hello and please don't judge me -- I look haggard right now," she began the three-video series. "But my question for all of you is: A lot of fans in our world today, they always are subject to really criticize people and say that the pictures and videos that they're posting are either not on time or they're fake, but no one ever really asks, 'Are the paparazzi pictures fake?' and 'Do the paparazzi people do stuff to the pictures?' and 'Is the news really real?' It's a conspiracy theory that I'm actually interested in."

"Yesterday, I went swimming and I look 40 pounds bigger than I am today," the bikini-clad singer went on. "This is how I am right now, and I am skinny as a needle. You tell me: What is real?"

The candid address to her fans followed weeks of speculation that Spears hasn't been in charge of her Instagram account since checking into a mental health treatment facility earlier this year.

Since claims started to emerge about her team's alleged control over her accounts and day-to-day life, the "Toxic" singer has upped the frequency of her posts and even addressed claims head on that her posts were actually old photos and videos being used to mislead her fans.

"For those of you who think I don't post my own videos, I did this video yesterday so, you're wrong, but I hope you like it!" she said in a video posted on May 28.

Spears and Asghari have been dating for about two years, since meeting on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video, in which he plays her love interest. The model has stayed by the singer's side throughout her tumultuous last six months or so, during which her successful Piece of Me Las Vegas residency came to an end, and she announced a follow-up residency, Domination, which was later cancelled after her father got sick.

Insiders told Us Weekly that Asghari "has been extremely supporting and is behind her all the way" during Spears' tough times. "He’s so proud of her for wanting to better herself and for taking this step."
