Britney Spears checks into mental health facility after dad 'nearly died': report

Britney Spears reportedly checked into a mental health facility this month.

TMZ reports that the singer "has been distraught" over her father, Jamie's, health problems and is seeking treatment as a result. The news broke minutes after Spears had taken to Instagram to share that she needed "me time."

"Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit," the post read. "We all need to take time for a little 'me time.' :)"

The outlet reports that Jamie Spears has undergone two surgeries to correct issues with his intestines and colon, "but he's been suffering complications" and his condition is "quite serious and not getting better."

Britney is expected to remain in the mental health facility for 30 days.

"Britney just needed to focus on herself," a source told People. "Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her. He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He's not doing well. They're so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her -- she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself."

The news comes nearly three months after the singer abruptly put her planned second Las Vegas residency, Domination, on hold to focus on her father's wellbeing.

"I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination," she wrote on January 4. "I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make."

"A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him," she went on. "I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always."

Jamie Spears, 66, was named the permanent co-conservator of Britney's affairs back in 2008 following her well-documented public meltdown and has remained as such ever since.

Though Jamie and Britney's mom, Lynne, got divorced in 2002 after nearly 30 years of marriage, they reportedly got back together in 2010. They also share son, Bryan, 41, and daughter, Jamie Lynn, 27.

Britney is thought to still be dating backup dancer Sam Asghari. She shares two children, sons Sean, 13, and Jayden James, 12, with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline.
