Trooping the Colour: Meghan Markle makes post-baby public debut

Updated

Meghan Markle made her official return to public life on Saturday for the annual Trooping the Colour celebration in honor of Queen Elizabeth's birthday.

The Duchess of Sussex took a break from her maternity leave just over a month after giving birth to her first son with Prince Harry, Archie Harrison, to participate in the celebratory event, which comes nearly two months after the monarch turned 93.

Her appearance on Saturday marked just the second time that she's been seen since giving birth, with the only other time being two days after welcoming Archie for a brief photo-call. Notably, she didn't break her maternity leave during the Trumps' state visit to London earlier in the week.

Meghan was all smiles at Trooping the Colour in a navy dress made by Clare Waight Keller, who designed her wedding dress and is the artistic director for Givenchy, that she paired with a matching hat by Noel Stewart.

Thousands of spectators from the British public were lining the carriage routes to greet the royals, celebrate the Queen and, presumably, get a glimpse of new mom Meghan.

After riding in a carriage to Buckingham Palace alongside Harry, Duchess Kate and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Meghan appeared on the balcony at Buckingham Palace alongside the rest of the royal family, a group that included Prince Louis, 1, for the first time this year.

Meghan made her debut last year, just one month after marrying Prince Harry, who is not taking a paternity leave and has attended a slew of events since welcoming his first child.
