Did Donald Trump and Prince Harry discuss his 'nasty' comment about Meghan Markle? Here's what the president said

Donald Trump and Prince Harry did not discuss the controversy around the president supposedly calling Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, "nasty" when the two attended a private lunch at Buckingham Palace on Monday.

During a sit-down interview with Piers Morgan for "Good Morning Britain," President Trump was asked whether or not he had a chance to clear the air with Harry while at the lunch attended by members of the royal family and the Trump family.

While he did say that he "congratulated" Harry, who he thinks is a "terrific guy," Trump said they didn't discuss the scandal.

"We didn't talk about it. I was going to, because it was so falsely put out there," Trump said, not giving a reason as to why he didn't bring it up. "When you see that transcript, you see it's the exact opposite of what they said. Did you look at the transcript?"

When Morgan asked Trump if Harry was indeed standoffish during the visit, which photos and reporters who were there indicated was the case, the president denied that there was any sort of tension.

"No, no, just the opposite," he claimed. "In fact, he spent a lot of time talking to Ivanka and talking to my family. I went up, and he couldn't have been nicer."

The Trumps' first stop during their state visit in the United Kingdom on Monday came just two days after The Sun published its interview with the president, reporting that he said he "didn't know" Meghan had called him "misogynistic" and "divisive" during a 2016 interview, and said "I didn't know she that she was nasty."

After an international uproar over his comments, he denied calling the duchess nasty, instead saying he was calling what she said nasty.

"The question was asked to me, and I didn't know she said anything bad about me. It sounds like she did, and that's okay. Hey, join the crowd!" Trump said to Piers Morgan this week. "It seems like she had, and they said some of the things that she said and it's actually on tape and I said, 'Wow, I didn't know she was nasty.' I wasn't referring to she's nasty, I said she was nasty about me. I said, 'You know what? She's doing a good job, I hope she enjoys her life.' I think she's very nice. Honestly I don't know her."

Trump went on to say that the controversial "just shows you how terrible the news can be."

The speculation around President Trump allegedly calling Meghan Markle "nasty" isn't the only controversy that he drummed up during his trip to the U.K. During the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace on Monday evening, he made waves by lightly touching Queen Elizabeth's back, which was viewed as a break in royal protocol.
