Trump tweet about Kate Middleton topless resurfaces amid Buckingham Palace visit

A years-old tweet of Donald Trump's has resurfaced amid his state visit to he United Kingdom.

On Monday, the president and his family arrived in the U.K., where they were welcomed by the British royal family for a variety of events, including a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace that evening, where Prince William and Kate Middleton joined the likes of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla for a lavish dinner party.

Trump and, rather inexplicably, his children, made niceties with the royals during the official state visit, and he president even expressed interest in his kids holding a "next generation" meeting with Kate, William and Prince Harry during their trip.

But, seven years ago, as evidenced by a resurfaced social media post, Trump didn't have much respect for the Duchess of Cambridge.

Alluding to the international outcry over topless photos taken illegally of the royal, who had just married William, Trump sided with the intruding paparazzi who snapped the unauthorized pictures of Kate while she was on vacation with her husband.

"Who wouldn't take Kate's picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing," he tweeted in 2012. "Come on Kate!"

In September 2017, the duchess was awarded £91,700 in punitive damages by a French court for the photos taken in Provence, France. The French tabloid, Closer, which published the photos, was ordered to pay her the money.

Trump has yet to respond to the tweet making the rounds again, but this isn't the first time that his comments about women in the royal family have turned heads even this week. When asked about Meghan Markle's 2016 comments that he was "misogynistic," he reportedly told The Sun that he didn't know she was "nasty."

He has since denied calling Duchess Meghan "nasty."
