Demi Lovato posts 'sweaty, messy' makeup-free selfie 5 months into recovery

Recovery is a beautiful thing.

Demi Lovato posted a selfie on Instagram Tuesday, and it's a quite a different look than the last one she posted: The makeup-free, post-workout snap is a major contrast to the glammed-up selfie she shared in July, just one day before her near-fatal overdose.

"Sweaty, messy jiu jitsu hair," she captioned the photo, adding the hashtag "never give up."

Although she'll no doubt in time return to the red carpet, we have to say: She looks so happy and healthy without the heavy lashes and coiffed-to-perfection hair! This was her look on July 23; on July 24, she was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center due to an opioid overdose.

The star made her initial return to social media in late October, when she urged fans to vote in the midterm elections. "I am so grateful to be home in time to vote!" she wrote.

Lovato has also been making efforts to purge her inner circle of people who she considers unsupportive. That apparently included her longtime trainer, Danielle Martin, which she made clear after a fan came to Martin's defense, saying she shouldn't have been fired.

"You have no idea what you're talking about," Lovato wrote to the fan. "True friends don't do interviews about you when you OD."
