Prince Harry marries Meghan Markle in a royal wedding for the ages

Updated

It's official: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are married!

The couple, who will now be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, wed on Saturday morning in a noon ceremony held inside St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in front of hundreds of family and friends.

The ceremony lasted a little over an hour and featured a sermon from Bishop Michael Curry, a gospel performance of "Stand By Me," a cello performance by 19-year-old prodigy Sheku Kanneh-Mason and several other readings. When Meghan joined Harry at the altar, he whispered "you look amazing" to her, which made the internet go wild.

Markle wore a simple white Givenchy wedding gown for her wedding that she paired with Queen Mary's Filigree Tiara and a veil with a lengthy train. She completed the look with earrings and a bracelet from Cartier and a pair of custom Givenchy stilettos.

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton were among the members of the royal family in attendance alongside Markle's mother, Doria Ragland. Markle's father, Thomas, missed the ceremony due to a last-minute heart surgery that prevented him from traveling.

There were a slew of celebrities there, as well. Elton John, Victoria and David Beckham, George and Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, James Corden, Oprah and Idris Elba were all invited, as were select members of Markle's former "Suits" cast and Harry's ex-girlfriends, Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas.

Harry arrived on foot alongside brother Prince William in traditional British Army Blue military garb, while Meghan drove from her hotel with her mother, Doria. Doria switched cars before they arrived at the chapel, though, and arrived minuted before Meghan in a separate vehicle.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first started dating in the summer of 2016, after a mutual friend set them up on a blind date. They kept their romance under wraps, frequently visiting each other in London and Meghan's former home of Toronto, where she lived for years during the filming of "Suits," which she starred on for seven seasons.

The pair waited over a year to make their public debut, at last September's Invictus Games in Toronto, where they attended several events together. Two months later, at the end of November, Meghan and Harry announced their engagement to much fanfare.

In the months since, Meghan moved to London to live with Harry at Kensington Palace and has joined him on countless official royal engagements all over England.
