Inside Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum's shocking split: What really happened?

Updated

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum shocked fans on Monday night when that announced via a joint statement that they were calling it quits on their 9-year marriage.

The couple, who met in 2006 on the set of "Step Up," started dating soon after and wed three years later in 2009, announced that they had "lovingly chosen to separate as a couple."

"There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision -- just two best friends realizing it's time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible," their statement continued.

In an article titled "The real reason Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum split," Page Six claims that the beloved celebrity pair chose to separate "due to spending more time apart because of the pressure of work."

"Channing has been working non-stop, with four movies announced for 2018 alone," the outlet's source explained. "It is hard on a marriage to be apart so much, especially when you have a young child. Plus Jenna is in pre-production for the movie, "Berlin I Love You.'"

To be sure, though, the pair has had conflicting work schedules throughout most of their relationship: Channing's movie stardom is nothing new, while Jenna has taken on a variety of projects of the years. But they have, indeed, been spending more time apart: She attended the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party without her husband at the beginning of March, while he was seen grabbing dinner at hot-spot Craig's without his wife.

Also, as People notes, "the former couple was known for posting countless photos together on social media, [but] Tatum last posted about Dewan in December" when he celebrated her birthday."

Though the couple may have been drifting apart, they did put up a united front alongside daughter, Everly, 4, at the 2018 Kids' Choice Awards at the end of March. It was actually one of the first times the public had seen a direct photo of their daughter -- ever.

Curiously, too, Dewan Tatum stepped out hours before they announced their separation wearing her wedding ring.

At the end of the day, though, their main priority remains their daughter.

"Both Channing and Jenna are devoted to their daughter and have worked hard to spend as much happy family time together, despite the problems in their relationship that the distance has seemed to magnify," the family source told Page Six.
